Living up to expectations, the 25-year-old Black Diamond confidently answers the "fifteen-year question".

In 2014, Chairman Yang Riping of Black Diamond delivered a themed congratulatory speech titled "Gathering Classics, Creating the Future" during the company's 15th anniversary celebration. In the speech, the four "once upon a time" vividly described the difficulties faced during the startup phase; the four "today" confidently showcased the vigor of being 15 years old, and the four "we will" boldly outlined a grand blueprint for the future.
Time flows gently, and in the blink of an eye, ten years have passed. On April 30, 2024, Black Diamond will celebrate its 25th birthday. The once budding youth has left a significant mark in the industry, making the name Black Diamond resonate throughout the drilling tool sector. Honors such as the national-level "specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative" small giant, national-level green factory, and Hunan Province's champion product are merely prefixes to the name Black Diamond. Deeply cultivating the entire industry chain of drilling has always been the original intention that Black Diamond has never forgotten over the past ten years.
At 25 years old, Black Diamond has taken over the baton of time, and has also embraced the expectations of its 15-year-old self. Looking back at the promises made at 15, the 25-year-old Black Diamond has already delivered a high-scoring "answer sheet".
At fifteen: We will leverage the trends of the world, attract talents from all over, and build Black Diamond into a collective that loves learning, abides by discipline, and possesses strong combat effectiveness. Individuals will be as swift, fierce, and precise as eagles, while the collective will be as sharp, courageous, and united as a wolf pack.
At twenty-five: Strengthening the foundation of talent, comprehensively cultivating "three talents". Talent is the cornerstone supporting the rapid development of the enterprise and the primary resource for the operation of the entire industry chain of Black Diamond. After 25 years of exploration and practice, Black Diamond has summarized its unique talent cultivation model—the "three talents" cultivation model.
"General talent" cultivation—What is a "general"? The Art of War states: A general possesses wisdom, trust, benevolence, courage, and strictness. Black Diamond builds its management team from these five dimensions. An hour of unwavering learning every Monday evening is the energy source for Black Diamond's management team. Chairman Yang Riping combines the management philosophy contained in the classics of Chinese studies, such as the "Tao Te Ching" and "The Art of War," with management practice, sharing insights on courses like "Reform Begins with Thinking, Persistence Leads to Success," "Doing the Right Thing, Doing Things Right, and Getting Things Done Right," "Three Words to Solve Any Problem," "Public Speaking Tips and Techniques," and "Efficient Problem Solving." These courses contain both business wisdom and life philosophy, allowing the management team to grow continuously through daily persistence and accumulation, supporting Black Diamond's higher and further strategic goals. "Craft talent" cultivation—In the manufacturing sector, the spirit of craftsmanship is the foundation for achieving transformation and upgrading in manufacturing. By cultivating high-quality skilled talents, we promote the manufacturing industry towards high quality and high innovation. Black Diamond's "craftsman" cultivation is realized through measures such as a points system, master-apprentice system, and technology innovation awards. "Reserve talent" cultivation—In March 2017, Black Diamond Academy was officially established, with skills courses such as PPT production, advanced EXCEL, and spoken English launched successively. In June 2021, Black Diamond Academy officially opened the "Tomorrow's Stars" class, focusing on cultivating high-quality reserve talents, with Chairman Yang Riping as the main instructor. The class is disciplined, innovative in teaching, and integrates learning and thinking, aiming to create a learning, inclusive, open, and innovative environment for tomorrow's stars.
At fifteen: We will focus on research, continue to innovate, using Sandvik and Atlas Copco as benchmarks, employing the highest quality raw materials, advanced equipment, and processes, strictly adhering to quality management system requirements, maximizing our differentiators, and creating Black Diamond's cutting-edge products to provide the greatest value for global drilling customers.
At twenty-five: Establishing a raw material supply system, strictly controlling quality at the source; promoting independent innovation alongside industry-university-research collaboration, and building an independent intellectual property operation system.
1. Establishing a raw material supply system, strictly controlling quality at the source. In 2017, we launched a hard alloy production line, in 2022 we built a new alloy and tool innovation application industrial park, and in 2023 we launched a tungsten carbide production line. Amid the wave of light asset trends in manufacturing, Black Diamond has invested heavily in the research and production of raw materials. Our goal is simply to control product quality from the source; good materials lead to good products.
2. Promoting independent innovation alongside industry-university-research collaboration, and building an independent intellectual property operation system. Global application scenarios compel us to establish a research and development team with strong independent innovation capabilities that can quickly respond to customer needs. From information collection, development design, to testing, production, and final delivery, we continuously shorten lead times. At the same time, we leverage external forces to establish industry-university-research cooperation with institutions such as Central South University, Hunan University of Science and Technology, and Changsha Mining Research Institute, achieving a balance between independent innovation and industry-university-research collaboration. The result of our research and development is patents; as of now, Black Diamond holds 196 patents and has achieved high-quality transformation of research and development results through the intellectual property management system.
At fifteen: We will be customer demand-oriented, go all out, assess the situation, and provide customers with new comprehensive solutions, continuously expanding domestic and international markets with a global perspective.
At twenty-five: Black Diamond has built a complete industry chain production system from raw materials (tungsten carbide powder, mining hard alloys, blade substrates) to drilling accessories (down-the-hole hammers, drill bits, top hammer drill bits, roller cone bits, drill string tools, drill rods), and then to complete drilling equipment (drilling rigs), providing customers with more comprehensive drilling solutions and creating higher value. At the same time, Black Diamond has comprehensively laid out an overseas sales network, establishing marketing companies in countries such as Australia, Canada, and the United States, helping products reach over 100 countries and regions worldwide.
At fifteen: We will adhere to the cooperative principles of mutual love, interaction, innovation, and win-win, allowing employees, suppliers, and collaborative units to integrate seamlessly with a wide range of customers, working hand in hand to create the future.
At twenty-five: For 25 years, Black Diamond has consistently practiced the cooperative principles of "mutual love, interaction, innovation, and win-win," dedicated to creating higher value for employees, suppliers, collaborative units, and a wide range of customers, thereby creating a better tomorrow for everyone. Just like Black Diamond's well-known slogan: "Black Diamond is joyful, Black Diamond has a long life!" Only when employees, suppliers, collaborative units, customers, and local governments and citizens are all joyful can Black Diamond have a long life and become a century-old famous enterprise.
If we compare the Black Diamond to a ship, then employees are to the Black Diamond as sailors are to a ship. A ship without good sailors cannot discuss the interests of its passengers (customers), and it is possible that it may capsize midway. The Black Diamond facilitates employee feedback through birthday parties and employee representative meetings; annual travel and health check-ups, along with various holiday benefits, care for employees' physical and mental health; training at all levels encourages learning and further education to enhance employees' overall quality. Suppliers and collaborative units are to the Black Diamond as oars (sails) are to a ship. A ship without oars (sails) cannot move forward. The Black Diamond has weathered storms with many suppliers and collaborative units for over a decade. During the cooperation process, we maintain resonance and mutual prosperity by sending technicians to provide guidance, regularly organizing training exchanges, technical discussions, and management empowerment. Customers are to the Black Diamond as passengers are to a ship. If the service is poor, customers can vote with their feet, and what value does a ferry have if it loses its customers? The Black Diamond always insists on being customer demand-oriented, establishing a global Sales Network to bring us closer to customers, and creating a product authenticity verification system, customer registration system, 12-hour response for after-sales, and 48-hour processing to make us closer to our customers.
